Sestri Levante
The town stands on the alluvial plain of the Gromolo stream, close to a peninsula, which was called an "island" since the Middle Ages. Today the ancient island is joined to the mainland by a sandy istmo sandy beach, which divides the Ponente Bay known as the "Bay of Fairy Tales" (where there is a tourist port and the whose name was supposedly given to it by the writer Hans Christian Andersen), from the smaller and more evocative Baia di Levante, today known as the "Bay of Silence". The historic center develops between the two bays and the isthmus, while the most recent urban development occupies the entire alluvial plain behind. (from Wikipedia)
