The Holdovers, a film directed by Alexander Payne, tells the story of a teacher Paul Hunham (Paul Giamatti), who no one seems to like, neither his students nor his colleagues nor even the principal. In fact, no one seems to like his rigid and pompous nature. It is Christmas 1970 and Paul, without a family and a place to spend the holidays, decides to stay at school during the holidays as a supervisor of the students who have not yet been able to return to their homes. After a few days, only one student remains in the institute. This is fifteen-year-old Angus (Dominic Sessa), an excellent student but with terrible behavior, who always creates problems and risks expulsion every time. In addition to Paul and the young man, the head cook Mary (Da'Vine Joy Randolph), who takes care of the children of the privileged at the school and who recently lost her son in the Vietnam War, also remained at the school. The three will find themselves forming an unlikely family this holiday season, sharing several misadventures in the snowy two weeks they will spend together in New England.
